When we read a word or a phrase we interpret the meaning and develop a feeling from what it means to us. The definition of a word is one thing, but what that word looks like on the page may be an even more powerful way of communicating its meaning. My intent is to show words and phrases in an illustrative way that gives the viewer a more intense and positive feeling from words. I want to make something that is usually seen as very technical and perfect and transform it into something more creative and unique.
When I choose a word or phrase to illustrate I think of what I feel when I see it and I think of what I want the viewer to feel when they see it. Combining design and fine art is what makes my style unique. Exactly how I will transform the word is determined by how the design will be applied. In a corporate setting, the design may be meant to convey a more serious and professional look. In my personal brand, I like to present myself as a fun, creative person.
My style is always meant to show the combination of graphic design and fine art. I feel a more personal connection with a piece when I make it by hand and watch it develop before my eyes. Whether It’s clean, playful, or a little fuzzy, line work has a huge impact on what message is given through the work. Seeing people react to my work is how I know if I was successful or not. If I am giving the viewer a positive feeling and spreading happiness through my work, then I know I have accomplished what I meant to.
