Emmanuel Porquin
BFA Graphic Design
Up turn records is an interactive time capsule conceptualized and curated by Emmanuel Porquin. The space has been designed to embody a 1970s record store. Components of the store include a record player, a cassette player, and a tv with a VHS player so that the user may experience both visual and audio aspects of each product.
The products that are featured in the store range from 3D album covers, cassette tape, VHS boxes, and custom apparel designed by Emmanuel. The 3d album covers feature photographs taken by Emmanuel in live concert settings. Through the process of lenticular printing Emmanuel is able to bring more life to his concert photographs through a moving image. The VHS boxes contain various music videos and live performances captured by Emmanuel.
Within the store the user can experience what it was like to search for and listen to analogue music. In today’s society music is now easily accessible through digital formats. At times we spend countless hours searching for new sounds. This can be described as getting lost in the rabbit hole. Due to the fact that there is so much music available at our fingertips, we continuously scroll through our phones until we find our ideal sound. Upturn records wish to provide this experience yet in a Physical And tangible form.
