What really matters is invisible to the eyes; my oil paintings explore this ideation by obscuring the appearance of loved ones, their true colors only revealed when viewed through a different means. Developing this concept through traditional techniques, the hidden colors within my paintings create an interactive reveal, reminiscent of the idea of “opening up” to others, moving beyond first impressions. When first viewed the cool and unnatural tones seem out of place when paired with their figurative forms, it is only when one takes a step back and views them through a different way, in this case an inverted camera, can one see the natural, true colors of those depicted.
