BFA Graphic Design

Through the combination of figure painting, color and typography, my illustrations evoke the motifs of coexistence and mental health. The brushwork, color palette, and body language of the figure convey my imaginative side, while the geometric digital text conveys my strategic side. The background displays a color that is commonly associated with that particular emotion. All together, these elements represent my struggle with emotions throughout my life.

My brand, Fauntleroy Designs, embodies my love of thinking and strategizing coexisting with creativity and imagination. I believe everyone has multiple sides to their personality. It is important to acknowledge that humans can have opposite traits. In my case, having structure and a thought process is just as important as being able to have artistic freedom. In regards to my artwork, the use of mixed media shows how two different things can be in the same space.

Another topic that is important to me is mental health. During the earlier years of college, I believed I only had depression. After going to therapy, I discovered I actually have G.A.D (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and depression just so happens to be a side effect of this. I thought a clever way to convey mental health was through the seven basic human emotions. The four emotions that have affected my life the most have a figure in addition to the text that further conveys the feelings associated with that emotion. The remaining three emotions are reflected by solely text-based illustrations. I included all seven emotions because even though three of them are not as significant as the others, they still contributed to my life and helped shaped the person I have become today.
